Complimentary resources from GRC Solutions to assist during the pandemic
Working effectively from home is more than just making a cup of coffee and sitting down in front of the home computer.
Justin Muscolino, GRC Solutions’ Head of North American Compliance Training Operations has some advice:
I hope everyone is safe and doing their best given the circumstances of our current ordeal.
Working from home can take some getting used to. The period of adjustment can roughly be summarized in four stages:
Stage 1: “I feel uncertain.” People are either confused or uncertain about what’s going on. Family and friends become the key focus.
Stage 2: “I need to work”. People now try to take care of their work responsibilities and stay up to date.
Stage 3: “I’m bored.” This is when people are up to date on work, family and friends but have nothing to do.
Stage 4: “I need to keep busy.” This is when people start getting motivated and seeing what’s around for them to do. This should be our target.
Through all this, some key priorities begin to emerge. The first priority should be obvious: take care of yourself and your family.
The second priority is to take care of your work responsibilities.
The third priority is to take advantage of your extra downtime while at home and devote it to focusing on your self-improvement – to learning a new skill or upskilling in your profession.
As a compliance professional, I know that there is always more to learn when it comes to compliance. For instance, in the past few days, I’ve been conducting additional research into ACH rules, financial crimes, and banking rules as well as being more effective in business settings.
A final priority might be summed up as: look after your mental health. Working from home during the current period of uncertainty can take its toll on our wellbeing. Check out our free course on Working From Home: Mental Health and Wellbeing for some practical tips and considerations.
